News from around the blogs - Blood Bowl Legendary Edition

Alrighty, it was published on April's foolsday, but I have good hope this is real. Particularly as it was already hinted at in several newsletters and forum posts. Some of you may remember the Blood Bowl pc/xbox game that was released a while back. Now Cyanide studio had promised to keep supporting and updating the game and did just that with the Dark Elves download.

But now comes the Legendary Edition which should hit stores by the end of the year and it should contain the following:
- full 20 races from the Living Rulebook
- game update to the newest version of the Living Rulebook
- new stadiums to play your games in
- and a new story-driven campaign
- by the look of the new pics graphics have improved a bit as well

The artwork certainly looks mighty promising:

And from tomorrow there will be some real hobby activity again, including the Parasite of Mortrex and some Relictors goodness!

News from around the blogs - Mr. Dandy has been busy!

Today I have a bit of news that will be of prime interest to the Space Wolf fans out there. Toymaker turned wargame modeller Mr. Dandy (link) has a treat for us, his new Battle-Wolf War Mounts are up for pre-order. Something tells me he was thinking about a certain group of space dwelling vikings while sculpting these:

They're going for 20n bucks a pop, or 90 for the full set. And I have to tell you I damn well nearly caved in there and bought the set!

News from around the blogs - Death Watch RPG announced

Picture curtosy of Fantasy Flight Games

Well it is about time I started to add some more news posts, so the 'News from around the Blogs (and web)' segment is back and will be getting quite a bit of extra attention over the coming couple of weeks. About time I started spreading the love for other blogs, news and releases around a bit more!

So let's start this one of with exciting news from Fantasy Flight Games, this summer their Death Watch RPG will be hitting the community! I for one am definitely excited, not in the least because all of Fantasy Flight's GW-related stuff to dat has been absolutely fantastic! Additionally this should really help to give the Death Watch, and Xenos Hunters in general, a more distinct feel. At the same time I'm certain it will also lead to tons of info, art and rules for excisting and new Xenos critters. And you all know how much I love my critters!

The announcement (site link):

"Deathwatch is a roleplaying game in which you take on the role of a member of the Adeptus Astartes - the devout, bio-engineered super-soldiers also known as Space Marines. After many years of exemplary service within your own chapter, you have been singled out and selected to join one of the most unique and specialized collectives of Space Marines - the Deathwatch.

Only the most exceptional candidates from the fighting forces of the Adeptus Astartes are invited to join the mysterious Deathwatch; to take on a new oath to safeguard the Imperium from the darkest of threats. You will now be called into service to hunt down and destroy hostile xenos forces, to seek out and crush the root of heresy and sedition, and to continually fight against the foul daemon menace that crawls forth hungrily from beyond the Warp. You are at the fore of Mankind's war for survival against an extremely hostile universe.

Along with the other players, you will unite together as a Kill-team of Deathwatch Space Marines, but the challenges you will face are not all external. Since you have each been recruited from a separate Space Marine Chapter, you will be met with wildly differing traditions, beliefs, experiences and backgrounds. You must learn to work together with Space Marines who are strangers or even rivals.

As a Deathwatch Space Marine you have been selected as an exceptional candidate from amongst the warriors of your primary chapter, to bring your unique talents and abilities to the fight at the furthest fringes of Imperial space. United in this newly forged brotherhood, all Deathwatch Space Marines must learn to put aside their differences and work together to succeed in the most extraordinary of missions — or face the threat of total annihilation when confronted by implacable alien foes.

The Deathwatch RPG drops you and your group of fellow Space Marines squarely in the thick of the action, stationed at the heart of the Jericho Reach – a region of the Imperium long ago devastated by war, and now on the brink of destruction.

For centuries, the Deathwatch have maintained their silent vigil over the ancient ruins of the Reach, but now you find yourselves on the front lines of a grand Imperial Crusade that has been launched to reclaim this vast region of space from darkness and heresy.

The fate of billions rests in your hands!

Deathwatch offers a brand new roleplaying experience by focusing on elite, special-missions style action involving some of the greatest heroes and deadliest opponents the Warhammer 40,000 universe has to offer.

At the same time, there are exceptional roleplaying opportunities presented by the unique composition of the Deathwatch itself; the Space Marines who make up a Kill-team are a group of powerful and successful individuals, and often, it is the choice to go beyond that individual nature and sacrifice one’s pride in order to work together that will create the most drama and excitement in your Deathwatch games.

During a Deathwatch mission, you will earn renown, advance in experience and prestige, and garner special wargear only entrusted to the the most honoured and trustworthy battle-brothers. You will face extreme challenges, from the ravening horror of a Tyranid Hive Tyrant to the excruciating decision of whether an Imperial world’s population can be saved...or must be abandoned to their fate in the face of an encroaching alien menace.

While Deathwatch focuses on a different aspect of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the rule system is compatible with Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader. The Deathwatch core rulebook provides all the rules necessary to enjoy a complete roleplaying experience in the grim darkness of the far future."

News from around the blogs - Blood Angels inbound

Well there's a positive side to my insonmnia, besides 1-2 projects actually moving ahead of course. Straight from GW's latest newsletter we have the official confirmation that the Sons of Sanguinius are nearly upon us again.

"This April the Blood Angels will be re-launched with an all-new Codex and range of plastic and metal miniatures. One of the oldest and noblest of all Space Marine Chapters, the Blood Angels have stood fast against the enemies of the Imperium since the Great Crusade and it was their Primarch Sanguinius, who laid down his life to aid the Emperor against Horus in the final hours of the Warmaster’s rebellion. The new Codex explores the background and history of these superhuman warriors like never before, and contains new artwork depicting some of their greatest battles and most powerful champions.

The Blood Angels have always been a powerful close combat army and have been made even deadlier thanks to a range of specialist wargear, the ability to field Assault Squads as Troops choices, and more Dreadnoughts than any other Space Marine Chapter, including a Death Company Dreadnought and the fabled Furioso Dreadnought. The Sons of Sanguinius will be deep striking onto a tabletop near you this April – now’s the time to practice painting red."

Personally I'd rather they would first deal with the Necron codex which needs a big update, finally release those rumored nearly done Dark Eldar, write a good Chaos codex or finally start writing that bundled Inquisition book. On the other hand this codex is bound to be great and there will naturally be another chapter upgrade kit with a ton of bits I can cannibalize!

News from around the blogs - Nauticans army list

Good day fellow miniature gaming fanatics. As I said in one of my earlier post I'm trying to make this blog about more than just my own hobby antics and ramblings. So, here's the first post in the 'News from around the Blogs' series in which I'll be highlighting news, interesting guides and just really cool blogs from around the web/blogspot as I come across them.

First up is some great news that will be of interest to the WHFB fans out there. Sigmar and co have been slaving away on their unofficial Nauticans armylist for a long time and the newest version is now up in pdf form, so go check it out and leave some feedback on his blog. Edit - better make that their forum thread as the comments have been temporarily turned off.
